Apple could be preparing a significant upgrade for its future iPhone Air lineup. According to a new report from Bloomberg, the company is working on a refreshed iPhone Air model that is expected to launch in spring 2027, bringing a second rear camera and potential battery-life improvements.
The biggest change could be the addition of an Ultra Wide camera, giving the iPhone Air a dual-camera setup for the first time.
According to the report, an iPhone Air prototype equipped with both a Wide and Ultra Wide camera has already reached the advanced testing stage. Aside from the additional lens, the device is said to retain the same overall design as the current iPhone Air.
The camera upgrade could address one of the most common criticisms of the current model.
At present, the iPhone Air features only a single rear camera with a Wide lens, putting it at a disadvantage compared to the more affordable iPhone 17, which offers a dual-camera system. Meanwhile, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max feature triple-camera setups.
Multiple previous rumors have suggested Apple was considering a second camera for the iPhone Air, and the latest report indicates that the company is moving forward with those plans.
Apple is also reportedly looking to improve battery life on the next-generation model.
The company could achieve this either by increasing battery capacity or by improving power efficiency. However, because the upcoming device is expected to maintain a design similar to the current model, there may be limited room for a significantly larger battery.
Instead, efficiency gains may come from the chipset.
The report claims the next iPhone Air will use Apple’s A20 chip, which is expected to be manufactured using Apple’s upcoming 2nm process technology. The move to a more advanced process could deliver better power efficiency and longer battery life without requiring a larger battery.
The new iPhone Air is expected to launch alongside the standard iPhone 18 lineup in 2027.
Meanwhile, Apple’s premium devices including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the company’s long-rumored foldable iPhone are expected to make their debut earlier in September 2027.
While Apple has not officially confirmed any details about the next iPhone Air, the latest report suggests the company is working to make the lineup more competitive by addressing camera limitations and improving battery performance without sacrificing its slim design.
