The standalone iPhone 17 Slim has the highest chance of having an Apple 5G chip.
Apple’s major overhaul from its software and hardware offerings is taking shape. A part of this is its own 5G chips, which means the company is moving forward without Qualcomm in that regard.
According to a report, Apple is currently developing its own 5G chips to replace Qualcomm’s and they may debut on the iPhone SE 4 and iPhone 17 Slim. But they may not be applied to all upcoming iPhones.
The iPhone 17 Slim is the rumored replacement for the iPhone Plus models. Compared to the latter, the former is focused on its form factor, instead of specifications. It’s not designed to go against other devices hardware-wise.
It could mean that the iPhone 17 Slim is also a standalone device, giving Apple the freedom to test and apply many of its new hardware offerings, including a 5G chip. If true, the rest of the iPhone 17 and iPhone 18 series will still have Qualcomm’s 5G chip.
Why is Apple opting for its 5G chip? Qualcomm’s 5G chips are costly and Cupertino wants to cut that if possible.
Do you think Apple 5G chips can do well like Qualcomm?
