Apple’s foldable ambitions may still be unofficial, but the upcoming iPhone Ultra, also referred to as the iPhone Fold, is already being compared to its future competition. A new side-by-side look has now placed an iPhone Ultra dummy unit next to HUAWEI’s recently launched Pura X Max, offering an early glimpse at what could become one of the next big smartphone rivalries.
HUAWEI introduced the Pura X Max earlier this month as its entry into the growing large wide foldable smartphone category. That segment is expected to become far more competitive later this year, with Samsung preparing the Galaxy Z Fold Wide and Apple widely tipped to debut the iPhone Ultra.
Interestingly, despite not being official yet, the rumored iPhone Ultra appears to have already influenced both HUAWEI and Samsung’s designs, at least in terms of direction and form factor.
Based on the comparison, the iPhone Ultra and HUAWEI Pura X Max share a very similar footprint. While the two devices use noticeably different camera island designs, their overall shape and dimensions suggest they are targeting the same style of foldable user experience.
According to a recently leaked schematic, the iPhone Ultra measures 120.59 x 167.59 x 4.7mm when unfolded. That places it remarkably close to the Huawei Pura X Max, which measures 120 x 166.5 x 5.2mm unfolded.
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold Wide is also said to be in the same range, reportedly measuring 123.9 x 164.4 x 4.3mm unfolded. While it is slightly narrower than the Apple and HUAWEI devices, it still lands in the same category of large-format foldables.
The close dimensions across all three devices suggest that manufacturers may be settling on a preferred formula for wide foldables: large screens, slimmer unfolded profiles, and tablet-style productivity in a pocketable form.
For Apple, the iPhone Ultra is shaping up to be one of its most anticipated product launches in years. If the leaks prove accurate, it won’t be entering an empty market but one already warming up for a heavyweight three-way battle.
