The reason for buying the realme GT6 depends on where you’re coming from.
realme’s much-awaiting GT series for 2024 is just around the corner and it will be launched worldwide. If this is your prospect of a gaming phone, read on to learn how it fares against various scenarios.
Disclaimer: The realme GT6 isn’t available yet. This article is based on reportedly details about the upcoming device. Read with caution.
Processor
The realme GT series is a gaming-centric lineup, making the processor the lead star. Between realme GT5 and realme GT6, the latter is the obvious bet. But technical details shed a new light into the matter and we’ll try to make this as simple as possible.
The realme GT5 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Adreno 740 graphics. The unreleased realme GT6 is rumored to have the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 and Adreno 735 graphics. If you focus on that, you’ll see the discrepancies in the naming.
Here’s a rundown:
| Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 | Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | |
| Cores | 8 | 8 |
| Frequency | 3.0 GHz | 3.2 GHz |
| Architecture | 1 x 3 GHz Cortex-X44 x 2.8 GHz Cortex-A7203 x 2 GHz Cortex-A520 | 1 x 3.2 GHz Cortex-X32 x 2.8 GHz Cortex-A7152 x 2.8 GHz Cortex-A7103 x 2 GHz Cortex-A510 |
| Process Node | 4 nanometers | 4 nanometers |
If you look closely, the SD 8s Gen 3 features the latest components compared to SD 8 Gen 2. But the clock speed and efficiency appear better on the older Snapdragon.
Here’s an overview about the graphics:
| Adreno 735 (SD 8s Gen 3) | Adreno 740 (SD 8 Gen 2) | |
| Frequency | 1100 MHz | 680 MHz |
| Execution Units | 2 | 2 |
| Shading Units | 768 | 1280 |
| Total Shaders | 1536 | 2560 |
| FLOPS | 3379.2 gigaflops | 3481.6 |
Adreno 740 certainly is defeated in the frequency department, though Adreno 735 aces in two crucial GPU factors: shading and FLOPS.
Shading units represent how effective a GPU can render elements, such as lights and textures. The games with heavy graphical elements will need more shading power or those elements won’t appear crisp and clear.
Meanwhile, FLOPS (floating-point operations per second) measures how quick the GPU can make mathematical operations. The higher, the better.
Keep in mind that shading units, FLOPS, and other technical details won’t matter if the chipset is suffering from hardware and thermal problems.
On AnTuTu 10’s GPU benchmark, SD 8 Gen 2 scores 602,314 points, eclipsing SD 8s Gen 3’s 525,359 points.
Display
The realme GT5 came out with a 6.74” AMOLED display with 144Hz refresh rate and 1240p resolution or 1.5K. But the successor isn’t totally buffed as per leaks.
According to a post on X (formerly Twitter), the realme GT6 will launch with a 6.78” AMOLED panel, which is slightly bigger than the previous generation. However, the refresh rate is down to 120Hz. The resolution is unchanged at 1.5K.
Camera
While the realme GT6 is a gaming phone, it will still feature decent front and back cameras. The same post suggested a two-rear camera setup and a single selfie shooter.
The back cameras are a 50-MP Sony LYT-600 with OIS and an 8-MP ultra-wide lens. The selfie camera is a 32-MP shooter. If this is true, the realme GT6 is kind of nerfed because the past version came out with a triple-rear camera setup.
Do take note that the post highlighted the Sony LYT-600 main lens, which is found on the OnePlus Nord CE4.
Battery
The realme GT5 was launched with 5,240 mAh battery and a maximum of 150 watts of turbo charging. All-day usage and charge up in a flash.
The realme GT6, on the other hand, is expected to have a 5,500 mAh battery and 120 watts of rapid charging. We can’t explain why the rapid charging is reduced but it shouldn’t be a big deal.
Sure, it’ll charge a bit longer with that larger battery but I’ll take a battery capacity upgrade and small charging downgrade any day.
Durability
From IP64, the realme GT6 is upgraded to IP65. The IP6X means dust tight or total protection against dust.
The IPX4 means limited protection versus jets of water. With IP65, the device is dust tight and can now withstand powerful jets of water.
That precious display panel will be shielded with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
Final Thoughts
Although we don’t know the features, the realme GT6 is likely a good buy for those who haven’t owned a gaming phone. With Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, expect flagship-like performance for casual use, entertainment, and hardcore gaming.
If you’re coming from Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, the upgrade is incremental at best. The graphics of this chipset may look better in most cases.
If your phone can only crank up to 500K on AnTuTu, upgrading to this phone isn’t a bad idea, especially if you prefer Snapdragon processors.
If you’re okay with MediaTek, you can go for Dimensity 8300 Ultra or Dimensity 8200 Ultimate, both are lower than Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 on AnTuTu.
The upcoming Infinix GT 20 Pro is powered by Dimensity 8200 Ultimate with nearly 1 million points on AnTuTu.
The POCO X6 Pro, powered by Dimensity 8300 Ultra with 1.3 million points on AnTuTu, is now available for purchase.
If you already own a realme GT5, I suggest waiting for the GT7 or wait several months after GT6’s launch to learn more about it.
