We’re only a month away from the supposed launch of the Pixel 11 Series, but Google just can’t seem to stop insiders from leaking details about their upcoming phones. The latest device to be leaked is the Google Pixel 11a, the company’s answer to the budget flagship segment.
For the most part, past A Series phones offered great value for money, especially when compared to the likes of the Apple iPhone 17e. The hardware is solid, camera performance is what you would expect from a Pixel phone, and support is phenomenal. However, the only thing holding it back is the Google Tensor chip.
A Promising Upgrade Under the Hood
That may soon change with the Google Pixel 11a (codenamed Formosan). It’ll be powered by the company’s latest Tensor G6 chipset, and instead of the Exynos modem found on older chips, the G6 will now use MediaTek’s M90 modem to improve efficiency and connectivity.
What Else Did the Leaks Reveal?
But the leaks didn’t stop there. In fact, it’ll be better to ask what the leaks didn’t reveal as opposed to what they did reveal. Here’s what the leakers revealed:
The leaks didn’t say if the Google Pixel 11a has a fingerprint sensor, but what they did reveal is that Google upgraded the Face Unlock feature to be faster, more secure, and more accurate in low light. Does this mean that the Pixel 11a could have a ToF sensor to use for face unlocking?
Another thing is the battery. It looks like Google still isn’t buying into the idea of the Silicon Carbon battery. Although the leakers never really revealed the exact battery type used, we’ll bet that it’s the traditional lithium-ion battery because of the battery capacity revealed in the leak.
As I’ve said again and again, take these leaks with a grain of salt because until it happens, it didn’t happen. But it does give us a good idea of what to expect. Should the leaks turn out to be true, then we could be looking at a budget flagship that could give the best ones a run for their money.
