LTO stepping up to the digital age: instant traffic violation and even e-payments

Does it accept crypto coins or land titles from Xian Gaza’s SURREAL ESTATE? Please accept it, we’ve been scammed by 3 million pesos

Gone are the days when you will get a flimsy handwritten violation ticket that was incomprehensible to read and even understand. Now, you can violate your favorite road rules in style!

The LTO stated that the intended launch date for the use of these POS-style devices is the following week. In fact, yesterday’s enforcer training included a refresher on how to use and operate e-TOP that looks like a Steamdeck and a Nintendo Switch’s love child.

“Next week po ay hindi na mag-i-issue ng manual TOP ang mga enforcer ng LTO. Kaya sa mga motoristang nahuli ng LTO enforcers ay machine-generated TOP na ang inyong matatanggap.”

Jose Arturo Tugade, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary

In addition to releasing digital tickets, all data entered into the machine will be “uploaded and stored” in the agency’s servers, making it impossible to edit the indicated violation on the ticket later.

The machine also has a fingerprint scanner and a face recognition function to confirm the authenticity of a driver’s license. Each device will also come with two mobile SIM cards for internet access.

This brings us to its most notable feature. It is planned that the same devices will soon be able to accept payments for traffic violations instantaneously using a credit card or e-wallets.

“Ang second phase ng ating digitalization sa pag-issue ng TOP ay ang cashless payment method kung saan puwede nang magbayad ng multa ang sumuway na motorista kung saan siya mismo nahuli.”

Will these new devices and implementation ease every LTO personnel’s jobs or this will only open another box of difficulties in the long run? You decide.
