Netflix is preparing to introduce its ad-supported subscription tier in the Philippines, with a confirmed rollout set for 2027. The move is part of a broader expansion that will bring the lower-cost plan to 15 additional countries.

The Philippines joins a long list of markets included in this expansion. Alongside it are Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand.

The goal is straightforward: offer more affordable subscription options while opening up new advertising channels on the platform.

Netflix positions the ad-supported plan as a way to make its service more accessible. At the same time, it gives brands more opportunities to reach viewers directly within the platform.

Amy Reinhard emphasized this direction, stating that the rollout creates more ways for users to access Netflix at a price that suits them, while also expanding how advertisers connect with audiences globally. She added that the company sees strong growth potential in this space.

Netflix reports that its ad-supported tier has already reached over 250 million monthly active users worldwide. Around 80 percent of those users remain active on a weekly basis, showing consistent engagement with the platform.

To support this push, Netflix is introducing several new advertising formats. These include vertical video ads designed for mobile viewing, ads that appear when content is paused, podcast sponsorships, and AI-driven targeted advertisements.

Current Pricing in the Philippines

At present, Netflix offers four subscription tiers locally:

  • Mobile plan at PHP 169 per month
  • Basic plan at PHP 279 per month
  • Standard plan at PHP 449 per month
  • Premium plan at PHP 619 per month

Pricing for the upcoming ad-supported plan in the Philippines has not been announced.
