New Google Identity Check will protect your accounts in case of theft

Google has introduced Identity Check, an advanced security feature designed to safeguard your digital accounts in case of device theft. This enhancement joins the ranks of Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock, and Remote Lock, offering a new layer of protection.

How Identity Check Works

Google Identity Check

Identity Check ensures your device remains secure by requiring biometric authentication for specific settings when you’re outside trusted locations. Here’s what it safeguards against:

  • Changing your device PIN or biometrics
  • Disabling Find My Device
  • Accessing Passkeys
  • Performing a factory reset

If your device is in an untrusted location, biometric verification will be mandatory to make these critical changes, effectively stopping thieves from taking control of your device.

Availability

Identity Check is rolling out first to Pixel phones running Android 15 (Pixel 6 and newer). It will soon be available on Samsung devices with One UI 7. Additionally, Google has confirmed that other Android OEMs will receive this feature later this year, ensuring widespread adoption across the Android ecosystem.
