New PH Country Manager appointed by Insurtech Gigacover; teams up with 800k Upwork PH-Freelancers members

Philip Camil Gomez was recently named Country Manager by the Singapore-based insurtech company Gigacover. Gomez will pursue alliances with numerous expand 360-protection for Filipino people and businesses, according to Gigacover stakeholders in the Philippines.

Gomez has almost two decades of business experience in various sectors and has held positions with Convergys, Conduent, and Tech Mahindra, among others. He has experience in marketing, sales, leadership development, data analysis, quality control, and managing BPO vendors. Additionally, he has experience working with Fortune 500 companies and providing management consulting to start-ups and BPOs.

Gomez will manage Gigacover’s regional business operations as country manager. “We are happy Philip has joined our team.” According to Amerson Lin, CEO and Co-Founder of Gigacover, “His experience across multiple functions and domains will benefit Gigacover Philippines as we scale up.” “I am confident he can take our Philippine business operations to even higher levels.”

Increased safeguards for gig workers and independent contractors

According to a 2022 Fairwork Survey, only a few businesses offer protection to their gig workers. The report also emphasizes companies’ need to provide additional protection for contingent workers, such as sick pay benefits. Government representatives have also pushed for legislation that would give undocumented workers more protection.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) estimates that the Philippines has 1.5 million independent contractors. Gigacover has joined forces with the over 800,000-strong Facebook community of Upwork freelancers to further its excellent protection and coverage mission.
