The new TECNO PHANTOM X may receive top-of-the-line camera features next year.
This week, TECNO hosted the Future Lens event in Shanghai, China, and it unveiled some interesting features that may land on the upcoming PHANTOM X lineup.
Let’s begin with the w-shaped adjustable aperture. It’s TECNO’s take on the variable aperture for cameras. This aperture tech is inspired by the cuttlefish’s eyes and specifically meant to remove glare in harsh lighting conditions like strong backlights. The lens should have enough light to capture details but shouldn’t lead to whitewashed final form.
The second is the liquid telephoto macro lens – industry’s first and it’s coming from TECNO. What makes it an industry first is its use of a periscope module, which is big and challenging for macro focusing.
However, the brand solved the issue by utilizing voltage to tweak the lens curvature, resulting in dynamic adaptation from long to narrow to achieve five-centimeter macro focusing. This means large lenses are now usable for such a purpose.
Last but not the least is the universal tone. It’s powered by three AI engines to perfect skin tones in images. According to a report, the engine begins with the Multi-Skin Tone Restoration Engine that calibrates and modifies skin tones via a color spectral matrix, based on skin color chromatic research.
Next, the Local-Tuning Engine detects the individuals in an environment to correctly tone map subjects for an accurate imaging. The processing is finished by the Computational Portrait Engine for better results.
As of now, TECNO didn’t mention any models arriving with these features, though the upcoming PHANTOM X series is likely the first to get them. The brand may unveil it at the Mobile World Congress in 2024.
