Android 16’s new forceful Dark Mode works better than the override control version.
On Android 15, Dark Mode works perfectly on all apps so long as it’s natively supported. You can even choose Light Mode and manually toggle Dark mode in-app for that personalized look.
However, not every app comes with a native Dark Mode, and this is the problem for many users. How can they enjoy pure Dark Mode if an app lacks native support? Android 16 may have the solution everyone is clamoring for.
According to a report, the previously “make all apps dark” feature spotted on Android 15 may go live on Android 16. It’s similar to the override control in the Developer Options but better.
The Make All Apps Dark feature supports more apps than the override by using a more intelligent method to seamlessly force an app to go dark. In the image below, the Android 16 feature works well in inverting the colors on the status bar and even the in-app icon tabs.
Of course, we can expect issues because native support is still better than forcing any app. But here’s the big question: Will it be available to Android 16 devices? Let’s hope that it’s something that OEMs will add even to their entry-level offerings.
