Nothing has officially announced Nothing OS 4.0, its latest software update based on Android 16. The new version brings a refined design and several new features aimed at simplifying the user experience. An open beta is expected to be released soon, with a full public rollout to follow.
Key Design Changes
Nothing OS 4.0 introduces a redesigned interface that focuses on cleanliness and functionality. The Quick Settings panel has been rebuilt with wider, less cluttered tiles, and the lock screen has been reimagined with new clock styles. The Dark Mode has also been enhanced for better contrast and a more comfortable viewing experience.
New Features and Functionality
The update adds significant features for both power users and casual users:
- Multitasking: Nothing OS 4.0 now supports two floating app icons for faster app switching and smoother multitasking.
- Camera & Gallery: The camera app has been overhauled with a new “TrueLens Engine” for improved performance, and the gallery app has been made “smarter” with more intuitive controls.
- AI Integration: A new dashboard has been added to track and manage AI usage, offering users more control over their data and privacy.
Release and Supported Devices
Nothing OS 4.0 will be released first for the Nothing Phone (3). It will then roll out to other eligible devices, including the Nothing Phone (2a) and the Nothing Phone (2). As previously announced, the Nothing Phone (1) will not receive this update as its software support cycle has ended.
