Nothing has officially ended software support for the original Nothing Phone (1), bringing the device’s four-year software journey to a close with its final update.
The company confirmed that the July 2026 software update marks the end of the Phone (1)’s software lifecycle, meaning the smartphone will no longer receive future Android version upgrades or security patches.
The Phone (1) launched in 2022 running Android 12. As promised, Nothing delivered three major Android OS upgrades, eventually updating the device to Android 15 in early 2025. The company also fulfilled its commitment of providing four years of security updates, with the July 2026 release serving as the final security patch for the device.
The last update is relatively minor, including only the July 2026 Android security patch along with a collection of bug fixes to improve overall system stability.
To mark the occasion, Nothing reflected on the importance of the Phone (1) in the company’s history.
According to the company, the Phone (1) was where Nothing OS first took shape, introducing many of the software and design elements that would later define the brand. These included the Glyph Interface, the signature dot-matrix-inspired design language, and a cleaner, more focused interpretation of Android.
Nothing also emphasized that while software support has now ended, the Phone (1) remains a capable smartphone and continues to play an important role in the company’s story.
For existing Phone (1) users considering an upgrade, Nothing now offers several newer devices. One of the company’s standout releases in 2026 is the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro, which has been well received. However, the company has quietly stopped selling the 128GB variant through Amazon US, although it remains available through Best Buy and Nothing’s own online store.
With the final update now rolling out, the Nothing Phone (1) officially joins the growing list of smartphones that have reached the end of their software support. The device fulfilled the update promise Nothing made at launch, concluding its lifecycle after receiving Android 15 and four years of security patches.
