Built-in Cooling Fan in a Mid-range Smartphone? The Nubia Neo 5 GT Could Be the First of its Kind

nubia’s Neo Series has always been a popular choice among budget minded mobile gamers because it offers a great gaming experience without the hefty price that one would typically expect from these kinds of phones.

We have already seen gaming focused features from brands like nubia, features like shoulder triggers and gaming toolbars that help users fine tune performance or remove distractions for a better gaming experience.

What’s in Store for nubia?

Now, Mobile World Congress 2026, or MWC 2026, is just right around the corner and as always, there are going to be new features and concepts on display. Some of these features offer a glimpse into what consumers can expect in the near future, while others remain as proof of concept.

So what does that have to do with nubia?

Recently, nubia announced that its MWC 2026 appearance would center around the launch of the new nubia Neo 5 GT. Except this isn’t just your ordinary launch. The Neo 5 GT offers something that could put it ahead of the competition, a built-in cooling fan.

Active Cooling in the Mid-Range Segment!?

Active cooling in a mid range smartphone could be a game changer for the budget mobile gaming scene because it can drastically lower temperatures as opposed to relying solely on a vapor chamber.

For us, this didn’t come as much of a surprise since nubia has nearly perfected the use of active cooling in its REDMAGIC series. But implementing it in a mid range device? That’s a different story altogether.

To complement the Neo 5 GT’s active cooling fan, nubia also included a massive 4,083mm² vapor chamber, so say goodbye to those dreaded frame drops caused by thermal throttling.

Beyond the Cooling

The Neo 5 GT will still be powered by the same UNISOC T9100 chipset that’s used in the nubia Neo 3 GT. Considering it performed decently in our own testing of the Neo 3 GT, earning a score of 730,633 in AnTuTu Benchmark V11, it would have been great to see an upgrade to better complement the addition of active cooling.

Aside from the aforementioned specifications, the nubia Neo 5 GT is also expected to feature a 6.77 inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will retain the shoulder triggers and a Z axis linear motor for precise haptic feedback. For audio, it comes equipped with dual stereo speakers with DTS: X Ultra support.

Tying everything together is the same 6,000mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging and a bypass charging feature for those long gaming sessions.

Final Thoughts

There is still a lot that we do not know, most notably the price. Leaks and rumors surrounding the Neo 5 GT have been few and far between. However, if the Neo 5 GT retains the same price point that it had with the Neo 3 GT, then we might have a strong contender in the 2026 sub 15K Super Sulit category.
