One UI 8.5 Is Happening—Even as 7 Struggles to Roll Out

While users are still waiting for One UI 7 to fully land, Samsung’s already pushing forward with One UI 8.5. Yep, you read that right—there’s no sign of a 8.1 or 8.2. It looks like Samsung’s decided to leapfrog minor updates and focus on something more substantial.

According to new findings in Samsung’s internal system code, One UI 8.5 is already under development. It’s a surprise move, especially since One UI 7, which is based on Android 15, has faced a rough rollout. Reports of bugs and stability issues led Samsung to briefly pull the update from its servers, and it hasn’t exactly bounced back yet.

For context, One UI 7 was meant to ship with the Galaxy S24 series and upcoming foldables like the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. But with delays piling up, Samsung might be shifting gears toward a cleaner slate with the 8-series.

So what’s the deal with One UI 8.5? Details are still light, but it’s expected to bring deeper system refinements—possibly debuting with the Galaxy S26 lineup next year. Meanwhile, One UI 8.0 is still likely to launch later this year with the Z Fold 7 and Flip 7, though that may just be a stepping stone to the bigger 8.5 rollout.

Bottom line? Samsung’s skipping the filler and setting sights on a more meaningful update cycle. If you’re frustrated by the One UI 7 delays, this could actually be a good sign that something better is brewing.
