A recent firmware leak has officially confirmed that One UI 9.0 will be the next major version of Samsung’s mobile operating system. This is a significant update, as it is expected to be built on a new Android base and debut on the next wave of Galaxy devices.

Built on Android 17
One UI 9.0 is expected to be based on Android 17, a major version jump from the current Android 16-based One UI 8. This foundation will allow for deeper system-level changes, new core features, and enhanced security.
Key Feature Updates
The update is rumored to focus on three main areas:
- AI Integration: Deeper, more seamless AI functionality across the system, not just in specific apps.
- Foldable UI: Significant optimizations for large screens, including refined multitasking, improved gesture controls, and a more intuitive interface for devices like the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip.
- Refined Design: Subtle visual changes, including a layered look with soft shadows and gradients, as well as a more modern layout for system apps like the Phone app and Settings.
Release Timeline
One UI 9.0 is expected to debut on the next generation of Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip phones, which are scheduled for release in early 2026. Following this, the update will roll out to other flagship devices, including the Galaxy S25 series and other eligible models.
