According to tipster Digital Chat Station, OnePlus is developing a new version of its e-sports triple-core technology consisting of the P4 display chip, G3 network chip, and T3 touch chip.

Each chip is expected to handle a different part of the gaming experience:

  • P4 display chip: Improved display response
  • G3 network chip: More stable connectivity
  • T3 touch chip: Faster touch response

The OnePlus 16 is reportedly the first phone to use all three chips together. OnePlus has also reportedly worked with FPS game studios to tune the system for competitive gaming.

Powered by a separate flagship processor

The gaming chips will work alongside the phone’s main processor, which is expected to be Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro.

The chip is rumored to use TSMC’s 2nm process and feature new Oryon CPU cores clocked above 5GHz, along with higher IPC for improved overall performance.

The OnePlus 16 is also expected to feature a new version of the Oriental Screen, co-developed with BOE, and run ColorOS 17, with improvements to animations and resource management.

The phone is expected to launch in October, although none of these specifications have been officially confirmed.

If the leaks are accurate, the OnePlus 16 could be OnePlus’ attempt to go beyond simply using a powerful processor by adding dedicated hardware for the display, network, and touch experience.
