It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the brand as rumors of a shutdown continue to circulate on the internet. While there may be some truth to the rumors, “shutdown” seems a bit excessive when describing the company’s future for the brand.
Rather than completely closing their doors, OnePlus is scaling back on their global operations which includes parts of Europe, UK, and the U.S. The strategy seems to focus instead on markets in which the company still has a lot of influence.
Kind of ironic considering the company’s motto is “Never Settle”.
Despite all of that, it looks like the company will continue to churn out phones for the next few months or so. One of those phones has already been revealed in China, the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra.
Let Your Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Supposed the rumors were a fire, the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra is the fire extinguisher. With its design alone, the company is sending a signal to the community that we’re here, we’re still very much in the fight.
While the Ace Series has always been the more performance-focused line in OnePlus’ stable, they’ve never really had that gamer look that most phones in that category has. Of course, that can be both good and bad, depending on who you ask.
Now, they’re doubling down on the performance part by revealing a striking new colorway called “Ace Awakening” that features a black casing with a massive, reflective Ace logo at the back. Even the name “Ace Awakening” seems to signal a return to their enthusiast roots.
Desktop-Level Performance
A new colorway is just the tip of the iceberg, everything else seems like something you’d see in a desktop computer. One the features that truly standout is the 165Hz refresh rate display, which for a smartphone seems a bit overkill. Especially when you consider that not a lot of games support a 165Hz refresh rate.
But if it did, the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra would definitely kill it at running those games, especially with a MediaTek Dimensity 9500 under the hood. Powering all that is a massive 8,500 mAh battery paired with 100W wired fast charging.

For OnePlus, the Ace 6 Ultra isn’t just another phone launch, it’s a powerful narrative that dispels any “shutting down” rumors. Sure, the Ace 6 Ultra might not make a dent in saving the company’s dwindling sales but it shows that OnePlus still has what it takes to make a flagship smartphone.
Aside from the Ace 6 Ultra, OnePlus is also set to release a “new form factor product” that OnePlus China President Li Jie Louis teased. There’s no telling whether we’ll get a version of the Ace 6 Ultra here in the Philippines but if there’s one thing certain: OnePlus is still pretty much in the fight.
