Rumors about OnePlus scaling back its global business are gaining more traction. After an earlier report claimed the company would soon leave the US and Europe, a second report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is now backing up those claims, while adding that India could also be part of OnePlus’ long-term exit plans.
Second report backs earlier claims
Just days after a report that OnePlus could stop operating in the US and Europe as early as this week, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has published a separate report saying the same thing. According to the report, OnePlus is preparing to withdraw from both regions as part of a larger restructuring under parent company OPPO.
The new report also claims the company’s plans go even further.
Bloomberg reports that OnePlus is expected to remain active in China for now, but the brand could withdraw from all other markets by 2027, including India. If that happens, China would become the only market where OnePlus continues to operate.
The India claim is particularly surprising since OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus N6 in the country and even started teasing another device in the lineup earlier this week.
The restructuring is not expected to affect only OnePlus.
According to Bloomberg, OPPO’s other sub-brand, realme, is also set for a strategic shift. Instead of expanding within its home country, realme is reportedly planning to exit the Chinese market as part of the same restructuring.
Neither OPPO nor OnePlus has publicly commented on the latest reports.
Still, with two separate reports from reliable sources pointing to the same outcome, speculation about OnePlus’ future outside China continues to grow. An official announcement could arrive as early as this week if the reports prove accurate.
As always, until OnePlus or OPPO confirms the information, these plans should still be treated as unofficial.
