OnePlus may just have one-upped Samsung in their own game with the Open 2.
First, a little bit of history
Foldable displays aren’t new; in fact, Nokia introduced a concept device called the “Morph” in 2008, and contrary to popular belief, the Galaxy Fold wasn’t the first commercially available foldable on the market; that honor goes to the Royole Flexpai. However, Samsung did popularize the foldable with the success of the Z series.
The emergence of foldables marked a new dawn for the tech industry. It was and still is a technological marvel. Of course, it was not without its fair share of problems. The first Galaxy Z Fold grappled with hardware and software issues, one of which was the dreaded and inescapable crease.
The first-gen Galaxy Z Fold had a clearly visible crease; it couldn’t be dismissed because it was so prominent. As display technology improved, so did the crease; it went from being clearly visible to somehow noticeable, making it tolerable to use.
Has OnePlus finally solved the crease issue?
Now, OnePlus is stepping up the game with the OnePlus Open 2 (also known as the OPPO Find N5). OnePlus’s CEO Pete Lau took to X to tease their upcoming foldable in a photo alongside what looks to be a Z Fold 6 and a caption that says “No crease detected.”.

The OnePlus Open 2 is expected to launch on the 20th alongside the OPPO Find N5. Samsung, on the other hand, still hasn’t revealed anything about the Z Fold 7. Chances are, it might not be announced for a few more months.
Can Samsung fight back?
Information on the Z Fold 7 remains scarce, with either a Snapdragon 8 Elite or Exynos 2500 powering the device and a 2600-nit display that supports the ProScaler feature found in the S25 Ultra. Samsung still has the chance to take back the crown, assuming that the Open 2 hits it off with consumers.
