Ever wonder what it’s like to have J.A.R.V.I.S. or F.R.I.D.A.Y. at your disposal? Worry no more, because OpenAI just made that a reality… kinda…
OpenAI just unveiled their new AI agent called Operator. The agent was made to assist users in online tasks such as shopping, booking flights, or purchasing tickets by autonomously performing these tasks all by itself.
What does this mean for workers?
It’s honestly both really cool and really scary. Especially with what it signifies for the job sector, AI taking more and more jobs from workers. Operator’s existence and possible success would be like rubbing salt into an open wound.
What’s more is that OpenAI has already partnered with various companies such as Instacart, Uber, eBay, OpenTable, and Etsy to enhance the AI agent’s capability and to offer a much more seamless and refined experience across different platforms.
There’s a silver lining after all
Thankfully, Operator is still in its research preview phase. It also comes with a hefty price tag of $200 per month and is only available in select countries, including Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
We just hope that OpenAI responsibly markets the agent as an aid for humans in the workforce rather than completely displacing workers in favor of automation.
