OPPO A6i 5G leaks: Recycled ideas in a new wrapper?

OPPO seems to be in a rut these days as they release the same phone, albeit with a few different variations. One of these phones just popped up in China’s TENAA certification body.

The phone in question is the soon-to-be-released OPPO A6i 5G which revealed some of its specifications, as well as some photos of the device. However, in doing so, it also revealed some disappointing facts about the device.

At the heart of the A6i 5G’s mediocrity is its display, the same 6.67-inch IPS LCD display with the same resolution as the OPPO A5x, 720 x 1604. Quite disappointing on its own, given the fact that most of its contemporaries have already been pushing a Full HD+ display, especially on such a large display.

Even the chipset is the same as the A5x, featuring the MediaTek Dimensity 6300, a mid-range 5G processor that while capable, is kind of a letdown. Paired that with either choice of 6GB or 8GB of RAM and the standard choice of internal storage. Offering little to no qualities that would distinguish itself from the rest of the competition.

To add insult to injury, the OPPO A6i 5G even uses OP5DF5L1, the same codename as the A5x, which solidifies the fact that it’s just a repackaged version of the A5x.

Let’s give the A6i 5G some props, it does offer an improved camera experience by utilizing a better camera setup. The rear dual camera setup consists of a 50 MP main sensor and a 2 MP secondary lens, probably used for depth or macro. The front camera also receives a bump in MP as it uses an 8 MP lens.

This constant repackaging of previously released devices seems to be on an upward trend these days as most smartphone manufacturers are looking to cut corners in order to maximize revenue. We hope that it’s not the case in the next couple of years, especially in established brands such as OPPO.
