OPPO and Ericsson announced a multi-year global cooperation agreement on 5G patent cross-licensing today. This agreement allows OPPO to utilize 5G technology in its future devices through a royalty-bearing license. The partnership extends beyond licensing, with plans for collaboration on device testing and marketing activities.
Feng Ying, Oppo’s Chief IP Officer, emphasized the agreement’s role in strengthening their intellectual property portfolio.Oppo prioritizes “friendly negotiation with mutual respect for the value of patents” to resolve future disputes.
For Ericsson, the agreement provides a financial boost for further investment in “fundamental communications technologies,” according to the equipment maker.
This announcement follows Oppo’s recent settlement with Nokia regarding 5G patents. It reflects a trend of renewed collaborations within the industry, as companies like Nokia have also secured similar agreements with Samsung, Honor,and Apple for 5G technology.
