These days, the smartphone market is looking more and more like the crossover car market, with designs derived from industry leaders (foldables being the sole exception). We’re not going to lie, phones do look better and sturdier than they did 10 or 15 years ago. We just don’t see manufacturers taking more risks to innovate.
Higher stakes, greater gains
Chinese tech giant OPPO is poised to take that risk with the Find X8 Ultra. Recent leaks have revealed a unique and quite captivating two-tier camera module layout. Creating an upper and lower section separated by a horizontal color division.

To add uniqueness to the layout, the sections will also have two distinct levels, with the upper one housing the 50MP Sony IMX882 periscope telephoto camera with 6x optical zoom. The bottom level will house the 50 MP primary camera, another 50 MP periscope camera, and a 50 MP ultra-wide lens.
That’s a lot of cameras for one phone. It’s not long before we see phone cameras operating at a level similar to high-end mirrorless cameras.
What else does the X8 Ultra offer?
Of course, the Find X8 Ultra wouldn’t be an “Ultra” without the impressive hardware to back it up. The device is rumored to have a 6.82-inch flat 2K AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Under the hood, it reportedly features the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset with a substantial 6,000 mAh battery powering the device.
Will we get the X8 Ultra globally?
OPPO is reportedly planning to launch the phone globally, unlike its predecessor, the X7 Ultra, which was China-only. With its closest competitor, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra, launching on March 2, before the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We can only assume that OPPO will give us a glimpse, if not an announcement, during the event.
Definitely stay tuned for more updates regarding the OPPO Find X8 Ultra.
