POCO X7: 5 Reasons Why It’s a Great (or Not-So-Great) Buy

Here are the five reasons why the POCO X7 is a great buy, and the not-so-great ones.

Even though the POCO X7 is just the base model of the series, it’s challenging the competition with a new OS and set of upgrades. But for 15K SRP, should you upgrade to this new mid-ranger?

The POCO X7 is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Ultra, where the notable change lies on the Mali-G615 GPU. This should spell better gaming experience and graphics rendering compared to the previous model.

Speaking of gaming, the handset sports an AMOLED panel with 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. The obvious upgrade is the 3D curved screen, first on a POCO device.

From mediocre durability on the previous model, the POCO X7 is now tougher with IP68 dust and water resistance and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, both showing some flagship-level toughness.

The battery isn’t really changed here with just a 10mAh increase. In fact, the charging speed has been lowered to 45W – a possible tradeoff for Battery Healthy 4.0 by Xiaomi. After reaching 1,600 charge cycles, the handset will sustain 80% of the original battery capacity.

For photography, the POCO X7 boasts the Sony IMX882 main camera with 4K video and OIS support. There’s also an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, 2MP macro lens, and 20MP selfie shooter.

Since the device is launched with HyperOS 2, it automatically gives users access to new AI features, such as AI Erase Pro, AI Image Expansion, and AI Film.

Reasons Why It’s a Great Buy

  • Better graphics processing unit
  • Curved display with improved durability
  • Upgraded main camera
  • HyperOS 2 out of the box
  • Expanded AI features

Not-So-Great Reasons

  • Same display quality as predecessor
  • Lower charging rate than previous model
  • Battery capacity slightly increased
  • No 3.5mm headphone jack
  • No eSIM support

The aggressive price tag is what gives the POCO X7 an edge in the mid-range mobile segment. Even if you’re upgrading from the previous generation, the changes will be striking like the improved set of durability.

The newly crafted mid-ranger is also a better all-around solution than its predecessor. However, there are alternatives for buyers.

You can go for the POCO X6 Pro of last year or spend a little more with the higher POCO X7 Pro. Go for the TECNO CAMON 30 Pro 5G for camera-centric tools or the Infinix GT 20 Pro for non-stop gaming.
