POCO X7 Pro: 5 Reasons Why It’s a Great (or Not-So-Great) Buy

Here are the five reasons why the POCO X7 Pro is a great buy, and the not-so-great ones.

We’re not even halfway through January 2025 and POCO is already reshaping the mobile mid-range segment with the POCO X7 Series. The POCO X7 Pro stands to show everyone that premium specs and perks shouldn’t be pricey. But does the 17K SRP prove it?

Debuting alongside the POCO X7 Pro is the fresh MediaTek Dimensity 8400 Ultra, the mid-range counterpart of the Dimensity 9400 flagship chipset. The D8400-Ultra features the Mali-G720 GPU, better than that of D8300-Ultra, which powered the POCO X6 Pro last year.

This flagship–like chipset is paired with a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel that sports 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. Completing the entertainment package are stereo speakers, improved spatial audio, enhanced gaming connectivity, and several AI tools.

The AI tools are system-wide ranging from scheduling to productivity. Speaking of AI, POCO claims that the device has 50% higher AI performance than its predecessor.

To meet your all-day demands, the POCO X7 Pro is equipped with a 6,000 mAh that supports 90W rapid charging. There’s a 6,550 mAh variant but that’s exclusive in India.

For outdoor enthusiasts, the smartphone features Corning Gorilla Glass 7i and IP68 dust and water resistance, much better than the previous model.

Reasons Why It’s a Great Buy

  • Powerful chipset with over 1.7M AnTuTu points
  • GPU with 5th-gen architecture and 7 pipelines
  • SiC battery with Heavy Load smart charging
  • Retains 90% of original battery capacity after 1,000 charge cycles
  • Upgraded passive cooling system and durability

Not-So-Great Reasons

  • No LTPO display technology
  • No Wi-Fi 7
  • No eSIM
  • Decent cameras
  • Optical in-display fingerprint reader

To make up for its weaknesses, the POCO X7 Pro gets an SRP of PHP 17K for its 8+256GB variant – close to the original launch price of its predecessor. It’s available for only PHP 14,699 during the promo period from January 9 to 19.

But unlike the last model, this one has an Iron Man Edition for collectors and fans.
