Do you need to upgrade from POCO X6 Pro to POCO X7 Pro? See what has changed and what seems the same in these mid-range powerhouses.
As a user of POCO X6 Pro, I’m delighted to see the successor, POCO X7 Pro. Although it’s mouth-watering, I have my reservations because my unit is yet to get its first major software upgrade.
Still, no one can deny the obvious changes, particularly the chipset. We wish we could simply ask a technician to slap a new chipset into our phones anytime.
What Has Changed
Here are the five major changes on the POCO X7 Pro based on early reports.
1. More Solid Performance
With a new flagship Dimensity chipset, it’s no surprise that MediaTek will launch a mid-range counterpart. In this case, it’s the Dimensity 8400 Ultra for the POCO X7 Pro. Don’t underestimate this chip because it promises flagship-like experience.
| Chipset | AnTuTu at Launch | AnTuTu as of January 2025 |
| Dimensity 8300 Ultra | 1,464,228 (POCO X6 Pro, advertised) | 1,311,648 (POCO X6 Pro, user-specific) |
| Dimensity 8400 Ultra | 1.7M+ (POCO X7 Pro, advertised) | 1,769,350 (non-user specific) |
The numerical difference isn’t really massive. What will matter during everyday use and gaming are the software and GPU performance, which is an edge of D8400-Ultra over D8300-Ultra.

2. Higher Battery Capacity
Better CPU and GPU must be paired with better battery life and POCO knows it. From the 5,000mAh on the POCO X6 Pro, the POCO X7 Pro will be launched with 6,000mAh battery capacity. Though, the Indian model is getting a 6,550mAh capacity.
The higher capacity is thanks to the use of a SiC or silicon-carbon battery, which is considered better than a lithium-ion battery. SiC batteries can have higher capacities while occupying the same space as Li-Ion batteries.
3. Even Faster Charging
With a 6,000mAh battery, users need something very fast to top-up the POCO X7 Pro. The device supports 90W of rapid charging, backed by security measures for reliable charging.
The handset also features an upgraded cooling system to keep the heat away from core hardware components. Plus, the battery retains 80% of max capacity after consuming the 1,600 total cycle.

4. Tweaked Cameras
The rear camera setup of the POCO X7 Pro has been reworked. It comes in a neat, pill-shaped camera island placed vertically at the side with only two sensors. These are the 50MP main sensor and the 2MP macro lens. The selfie camera is a 20MP shooter.
Here’s a quick comparison between the cameras of the successor and predecessor.
| Rear Cameras | POCO X7 Pro | POCO X6 Pro |
| Main – rear | 50MP, f/1.6, OIS | 64MP, f/1.7 |
| Macro – rear | 2MP, f/2.4 | 2MP, f/2.4 |
| Ultrawide – rear | – | 8MP, f/2.2, 120Ëš |
| Selfie – wide | 20MP, f/2.5 | 16MP |
Although the camera details of the POCO X7 Pro are yet to be confirmed, it’s a bit disappointing that the macro lens has been favored over the ultra-wide sensor. Let’s hope that the new Dimensity chipset and whatever POCO added can really deliver better shots than the previous model.
5. New OS
The POCO X7 Pro runs Android 15 and HyperOS 2 out of the box; its predecessor will get the upgrade this year. But what may differ between the two smartphones are the included extras, such as exclusive features and AI functions. Some may not be added to the POCO X6 Pro.
What Seems the Same
POCO X7 Pro and X6 Pro still share some things and that’s no surprise considering there’s no gap between their generations. But if you didn’t buy the previous model, the upcoming POCO handset is certainly a good buy this year.
Here are the things these two share:
- Same display at 6.67 inches
- Same resolution at 1220 x 2712 pixels
- Same refresh rate at 120 Hz
- Same pixel density at 446 ppi
- Same in-display optical fingerprint reader
Is the price the same? The POCO X7 Pro will likely follow its predecessor’s aggressive pricing last year.
The POCO X6 Pro 8+256GB variant was launched at an SRP of PHP 16,999, while the 12+512GB variant at PHP 19,999. The POCO X7 Pro is rumored to have a starting price of under INR 30,000, which is under PHP 20K. Its official PH SRP should be between 20K and 25K.
Should you upgrade from POCO X6 Pro? The difference won’t be exceptional if you think about the price-to-value ratio of the upgrade. However, if you’re a gamer and want to upgrade from a device with an AnTuTu score of below 1M, the POCO X7 Pro is worth considering.
The POCO X7 Pro is launching on January 9, 5.30 p.m. IST or 8 p.m. Manila time.
