POCO has officially introduced the POCO X8 globally, and it is taking a straightforward approach: pack in a huge battery, a large high-resolution AMOLED display, and durability features that are unusual at its price range.

The biggest number here is undoubtedly 8,340mAh. While large batteries are becoming more common thanks to silicon-carbon technology, this is still an enormous capacity for a mainstream smartphone.
POCO pairs it with 67W HyperCharge, while 22.5W wired reverse charging allows the X8 to act as a power source for other devices. The company also claims the battery can retain at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charging cycles.
The X8’s 6.83-inch AMOLED panel is no slouch either. It combines a 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a claimed 3,500 nits of peak brightness.
For gaming, the phone supports a standard 240Hz touch sampling rate and can reportedly reach an instantaneous 3,200Hz touch sampling rate in supported Game Turbo situations. Add 12-bit color, DCI-P3 coverage, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and the display is clearly one of the phone’s stronger selling points.
POCO is also going unusually hard on durability. The X8 carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings, covering protection against dust, water immersion, and high-pressure water exposure under the relevant testing standards.
POCO says the phone has also passed a two-meter, 72-hour water-resistance test and a three-meter drop test. That’s an aggressive durability pitch for a device starting below $300.
The camera system is more straightforward. The rear setup consists of a 50MP main camera with OIS and a 2MP depth sensor, while the front uses a 16MP camera. Both front and rear cameras support video recording at up to 1080p at 30fps.
This is clearly not a camera-first phone. POCO appears to have spent more of its budget on the display, battery, charging, and durability instead.
