Before you even got a PS5 sitting casually in your local Toy Kingdom or tech hub, game studios has already got ahold of their PS5 Pro devkits…
According to a recent leak from reputable industry insider Tez2, several developers have already begun receiving the PS5 Pro devkits. The existence of the new gaming console is confirmed if this information is accurate.
For those who don’t know, game developers frequently obtain the devkit of new consoles before they go on sale for a variety of reasons, such as greater optimization of current games or even the creation of new games based on upgraded technology.
Although, based on the PlayStation 5 devkits, we may expect the specifications of the PS5 Pro to also differ from the retail version that will be made available for consumers, the developers have reportedly been referring to the PS5 Pro devkits as the “kits of mid life updates.”
Unfortunately, Tez2 withheld any additional finer information, such as specifications, about the next game console model. But we may anticipate a more capable cooling system that aids in controlling the thermals of the updated AMD APU.
These reports suggest that the PlayStation 5 Pro will go on sale some time between mid to late 2024. This would be consistent with the PlayStation 4 series, with the PS4 Pro debuting roughly three years after the initial model. Therefore, it’s possible that the PS5 and PS5 Pro will have a comparable gap.
