A recent post by a Qualcomm executive on LinkedIn (of all places) delivered a major leak regarding the Nothing Phone (2) chipset
Alex Katouzian who serves as Qualcomm SVP and GM of the Mobile, Compute, and XR posted to congratulate Nothing on the upcoming launch. He explicitly named the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset powering the device. This is actually good and bad at the same time. Good that it might make the Nothing Phone 2 much more affordable but we might be already getting the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 3 by its launch and the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 3 is a significant upgrade to the Nothing Phone 2’s chipset.
Following the well-received Nothing Phone (1) midrange, Nothing’s second smartphone is expected to contend in the premium/flagship killer segment.
The chipset name is now excluded from the original post .
But then if you look back at the Nothing Phone(1), it only has a Snapdragon 778G+ which is a midrange processor. This time we are getting a last gen flagship qualcomm processor which is a huge step up in terms of performance. Current Nothing Phone(1) users will want to upgrade to the next one since the performance margin is huge.
Still I’m not sure what market Nothing is really targeting here since it doesn’t have the best specs for the price and it doesn’t compare to an iPhone’s premium quality, camera and performance prowess. The only thing going for the Nothing Phone is its love or hate quirky design. Hope they retain the iPhone like look though. 🥺
Nothing CEO Carl Pei also confirmed Phone (2) is coming to the US later this year.
