Qualcomm‘s upcoming Snapdragon roadmap appears to be bigger than previously expected. While earlier rumors pointed to two 2nm flagship chips arriving later this year, a new leak now suggests the chipmaker is also preparing two additional 3nm processors for its Snapdragon 8 lineup.
According to reliable tipster Digital Chat Station, Qualcomm is working on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5XX and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro. The two new chipsets are both reportedly built on a 3nm process.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5XX is said to carry the SM8850Q model number, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro is reportedly identified as SM8845 Pro.
These chips would join the previously rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 (SM8950) and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro (SM8975), both of which are expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s more advanced 2nm process.
Last year, Qualcomm introduced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (SM8850) and Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (SM8845). At the moment, it’s unclear how the rumored Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5XX will differ from the standard Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
As for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro, the “Pro” branding suggests it will offer improved specifications over the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. The chipset could also eventually launch under the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 name, although that remains speculation for now.
Digital Chat Station did not reveal any specifications for the two new 3nm processors. However, the tipster did share additional details about the previously leaked Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, further supporting earlier reports that Qualcomm is preparing multiple flagship platforms for different market segments.
If Qualcomm follows its usual release schedule, these new Snapdragon 8-series processors are expected to be unveiled around this year’s Snapdragon Summit, which traditionally takes place in September, the same month the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 was introduced last year.
