Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 CPU performance didn’t impress much.
Many are waiting for the preliminary performance tests of the upcoming Qualcomm flagship, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. It’s anticipated to be a ton better than its predecessor and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9300.
However, a recent claim suggests that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 only looks hot in the GPU department. The claim recommends that Android flagship smartphone customers wait for Gen 5 instead. Why’s that?
According to the tipster, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4’s Adreno GPU can reach peak performance equivalent to the GPU of Dimensity 9300 but half of the needed power. This speaks volume because the GPU won’t quickly drain the battery when running games or when higher refresh rates are turned on. It also helps lower power consumption when using the camera.
Unfortunately, that’s where everything seems to end. The same tipster revealed that SD 8 Gen 4 only scored 7,300 on the multi-core performance test. That’s not really far from the 7,304 score of SD 8 Gen 3 on Geekbench 6.
The same score isn’t higher than Apple’s A17 Pro. In short, the multi-core performance improvement is marginal.
Those interested in getting an SD 8 Gen 4-powered flagship this year should consider Gen 5, which is currently in the works. The successor is rumored to be getting custom Pegasus cores with the same CPU cluster as the former.
