The social media accounts of Apollo Quiboloy, the leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ church, have been deleted. Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, has not yet released a statement on why the accounts were deleted
However, a Rappler report said that an individual who reported Quiboloy’s Facebook page received a message saying that the account was deleted.
Quiboloy’s YouTube and TikTok accounts were also deleted, as well as the channels of his media network SMNI and of his church.
Quiboloy is on the FBI’s most wanted list for alleged sex trafficking, fraud, coercion, and bulk cash smuggling. The FBI said that he is wanted for his alleged involvement in a labor trafficking scheme that brought church members to the United States on fraudulently obtained visas. The members were then forced to solicit donations for a bogus charity, which were actually used to finance church operations and the lavish lifestyles of its leaders.
The deletion of Quiboloy’s social media accounts is likely due to the ongoing criminal investigation against him. Meta may have taken down the accounts in order to comply with the law or to prevent the spread of harmful content.
