REDMAGIC 7 Pro: The First-ever Gaming Phone with an Under-display Camera

Kung ang akala mo malakas na ang Redmagic 7, meron na naman bagong release si Nubia: the RED MAGIC 7 Pro! This phone is the first of its kind (we mean gaming phones) to have an under display camera, a truly full-screen gaming experience, and a dedicated gaming chip. Find out why REDMAGIC 7 Pro might be the next title holder sa Antutu.

DESIGN

First impressions on the REDMAGIC 7 Pro’s smartphone design is the transparent glass design. The phone’s internals can be seen in the rear panel, which gives it a “bare-bones” feel. This enhances and complements the gaming experience, plus with all the lights and the cooling fans this phone has, mapapa-wow ka nalang in amazement.

On the rear panel, the REDMAGIC 7 Pro looks like it’s taken out of a high-end gaming CPU. Depending on the configuration na mabibili mo for the REDMAGIC 7 Pro, you can either have something similar to REDMAGIC 7, or something that closely resembles the REDMI K50, albeit 10x cooler.

The design on the REDMAGIC 7 Pro looks like an update over the REDMAGIC 7. However, the camera array still is in the middle, some several small prints in gold featuring the phone’s best specs are all over the rear panel, and the RGB light behind the cooling fan is the same red, green, and yellow combination. There’s also new RGB lights near the middle of the heat sink.

What’s changed however is the ergonomics – hindi na sya curved and slimmer toward the bezels. Mas bulky ang dating ng REDMAGIC 7 Pro, pero it tapers off to a smoother edge, parang iPhone 13 Pro, but with a more prominent rear panel.

The left side of the phone has a dedicated gaming mode button, while the right side has the volume rocker buttons, power buttons, shoulder triggers, and the exhaust fan. The bottom of the phone has a USB-C charging port, speaker grill, mic and the sim tray. You will find the other speaker grill sa taas ng phone, along with its mic, and what looks like a 3.5mm jack.

DISPLAY

The REDMAGIC 7 Pro is the only phone for this year to feature a truly-full screen display that will give players an advantage in the fields of justice – er – basta sa battleground ng Mobile Legends.

The AMOLED screen measures a very wide 6.8 inch, which provides great viewing angles when watching movies or scrolling through social media. The best thing about having an AMOLED screen is the infinite contrast ratio, since nakapatay ang pixels pag black ang kulay – this way, the colors pop-out kaya mas enjoyable manuod ng Luffy vs Kaido fight scenes.

Don’t worry about going out in the sun dahil meron itong 700 nits of peak brightness, which is bright enough to act as a flash for the front camera. According to nubia, the REDMAGIC 7 Pro has 960Hz touch response rate, kaya sobrang smooth ng experience when it comes to scrolling through the app drawer, or through social media.

It’s going to be even better when playing games, since higher touch response would mean better plays, lalo na pag ML player ka, or “high-octane” fps games ang hilig mo.

REDMAGIC 7 Pro achieved the first truly-full screen experience by making the front cam sit behind the lens. Wala kang makikitang punch hole na nakakadistract, plus, the bezels are slim enough to make it as lightweight as possible.

The display is set to 120Hz, a downgrade from the 166 Hz from REDMAGIC 7 pero it still has all the bells and whistles that make both of them the best gaming phones. Let’s just wait kung mas mataas ang magiging Antutu Score ng REDMAGIC 7 Pro.

PERFORMANCE

And with a large screen, it will always come with a larger power supply. This is the time that Nubia decided to increase battery capacity kahit 500 lang. This will mean a little additional weight, pero okay lang if it means more ML gaming sessions.

Equipped ang phone ng Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, so we can expect Antutu scores approaching 1 million, or even greater. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 will be able to assist with multitasking. Nandito na lahat: vlogging, gaming, streaming, content creation, and a lot more, thanks to the fastest chipset from Qualcomm.

Unlike sa REDMAGIC 7 that has a 120W GaN charger, the REDMAGIC Pro 7 has a 65W Gan charger. Not bad, since kaya naman neto idala ang phone battery level from zero to 100 in just a few minutes.

May dedicated chipset rin ang display ng phone to assist with the GPU. A combination of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the dedicated display chip, and the GPU should give gamers an assurance na hindi interrupted ang flow nila during games.

We haven’t tested this phone yet so we’d never know if it overheats, or if the cooling fans do a good job of reducing the heat. We’d like to know soon kung malakas nga to sa Genshin Impact, or limited lang sya sa CODM or Mobile Legends. But one thing’s for sure – this phone is setting up some big specs to make it the next big thing.

CAMERA

The REDMAGIC 7 Pro uses a triple camera setup: a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultrawide, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Since paired eto with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, you can expect higher resolution video recording at higher frame rates. The 64MP camera can record videos of up to 8K@30fps.

This is also the first ever gaming phone to have a UDC (under display camera) kaya napakataas ng cool factor neto for gamers. Not only that, it will offer uninterrupted, distraction-free gaming experience.

This phone has several camera modes like night mode, pro/manual mode, and a variety of presets that REDMAGIC fans will love.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

The Redmagic 7 Pro is already up for sale on their website, with the 16GB | 256GB priced at $799 (roughly equivalent to PHP40,000), and the 16GB | 512GB equivalent to $899 (close to PHP45,000). The phones are available in Obsidian and Supernova varieties.
