REDMI has quietly expanded its latest budget lineup globally with two new smartphones: the REDMI 17 5G and REDMI 17 4G. Both models bring a large 7,500mAh battery, 120Hz display, 50MP rear camera, and Android 16, but the two differ significantly under the hood.
Interestingly, these global versions are also quite different from the REDMI 17 5G launched in China, which uses the Unisoc T8300 chipset. The global 5G model switches to Qualcomm hardware, while the 4G version uses a MediaTek chip.
REDMI 17 5G vs REDMI 17 4G
The REDMI 17 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 5, built on a 4nm process. It comes with LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 storage, along with 5G connectivity, NFC, and Bluetooth 5.1.
The REDMI 17 4G, meanwhile, uses MediaTek’s Helio G91-Ultra, paired with LPDDR4X RAM and slower eMMC 5.1 storage. It also drops 5G connectivity and uses Bluetooth 5.4.
Despite the chipset differences, most of the hardware is shared between the two phones.
Both feature a large 6.9-inch HD+ LCD display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, up to 825 nits of high brightness mode, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection.
The displays also carry TÜV Rheinland certifications for low blue light, flicker-free viewing, and circadian-friendly operation.

Battery life is one of the biggest selling points for both models. Each packs a 7,500mAh battery with 45W fast charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging, allowing the phones to also act as a power source for other devices.
For photography, both smartphones use a 50MP AI dual rear camera system and an 8MP front-facing camera.
Other shared features include dual stereo speakers with up to 300% volume boost, an IP64-rated body, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm headphone jack, dual SIM support, a microSD card slot, and support for up to 12GB of memory expansion.
Both phones also ship with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.
REDMI 17 5G pricing and availability
The REDMI 17 5G is already available in Malaysia.
The local pricing is:
- 4GB + 128GB: MYR 769, around ₱11,428*
- 4GB + 256GB: MYR 869, around ₱12,915*
Globally, the REDMI 17 5G starts at US$249, with additional 6GB + 128GB and 6GB + 256GB configurations also listed.
It comes in Black, Deep Blue, and Vivid Orange.
The REDMI 17 4G is listed globally in four configurations:

- 6GB + 256GB
The 4G model is offered in White, Red, and Green.
REDMI has yet to confirm specific rollout dates for individual regions, but both the REDMI 17 5G and REDMI 17 4G are expected to reach more markets soon.
