Earlier this year, we welcomed the REDMI Note 15 Series in the Philippines. Made up of 4 main models: the base REDMI Note 15, Note 15 5G, Note 15 Pro 5G, and the top-of-the-line model, the Note 15 Pro+ 5G. It was a decent phone, although if I’m being honest, it’s not quite a big leap from the 14 Series to warrant an upgrade if you’re thinking of one.
If you are thinking of upgrading, you might wanna hold on just a little bit longer because the base REDMI Note 17 just made its very first official appearance. Quite early if you think about it. Usually, appearances like this often happen around Q3 or Q4, but we’re only halfway into Q2 of this year.
With an early appearance like that, it gets you thinking… Is this a sign of an early launch?
The First Official Listing
The platform on which the REDMI Note 17 made its first appearance is the GSMA IMEI database, which definitely confirms its existence. Of course, Xiaomi will neither deny nor confirm its existence until they’re ready to launch the device, but the database listing does confirm that it is indeed under development.
We can be sure that in the coming months, the REDMI Note 17, maybe even the other phones in the series, will show up on more certification and database listings.
A Shift in the Launch Cycle?
Like what I’ve mentioned, leaks like this often happen around Q3 or Q4 of the year, but in the REDMI Note 17’s case, it showed up just as we’re finishing Q2 of this year, which suggests an earlier launch than anticipated. It could be that Xiaomi is planning to launch the new REDMI Note 17 Series in time for the holidays to capitalize on consumer demand as opposed to waiting until the new year comes.
What We Know So Far
Before going to that topic, you might be asking, where’s the 16? Xiaomi isn’t making the jump because of a superstition but because it looks like they’re trying to unify the naming scheme of all Xiaomi devices. It started with Xiaomi’s number series, which jumped from 15 to 17 to compete directly with the iPhone 17 Series.
Whatever reason it may be, I think it’s a good move considering consumers will no longer be confused as to what was launched this year.
Anyway, like what we’ve said multiple times in our articles, take these leaks with a grain of salt because until it happens, it didn’t happen. There are still no specifics when it comes to the specs that are currently circulating, only broad strokes.
According to the leaks that we’ve gotten so far, the display will most likely feature an upgraded AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and probably a greater peak brightness output. Performance, as always, can be divided into two: MediaTek and Qualcomm, depending on what model you’re getting.
As is the case with the REDMI Note Series, battery and charging will still be stellar, although it’s still not sure whether it’ll feature a battery north of 8,000 mAh.We’ve also been getting reports of an additional 5th member of the line-up. A purported REDMI Note 17 Pro Max is being talked about in the tech community, which will reportedly feature a massive 7-inch display and a 10,000 mAh battery.
With all of that in mind, the next few months will surely be interesting, to say the least.
