Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge teased: Specs, price and release date

Samsung’s recent Unpacked event delivered its usual lineup of exciting reveals, but one teaser stole the show: the Galaxy S25 Edge, a revolutionary addition to the Galaxy S25 lineup. While the official release date remains under wraps, Samsung hinted that this ultra-slim smartphone is on the horizon, potentially launching ahead of Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 17 Air.

From the glimpses shown at the event, the Galaxy S25 Edge is redefining thinness in the smartphone world. At just 6.4mm in width, it’s set to be Samsung’s thinnest phone ever. For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25mm thick, and even the standard Galaxy S24 measures 7.6mm. This sleek design does come with a trade-off: the S25 Edge features two cameras instead of the three found on the rest of the Galaxy S25 lineup.

According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, the S25 Edge is expected to hit shelves in the first half of the year, with pricing rumored to come in below the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s $1,299 price tag. This positions the device as an attractive option for users who prioritize design and portability without breaking the bank.

Why an Ultra-Thin Smartphone?

The move towards slimmer phones seems to be Samsung’s strategic answer to Apple’s rumored iPhone 17 Air, which also embraces a thinner and lighter form factor. By launching the S25 Edge first, Samsung aims to capture market attention and set a new benchmark for compact smartphone design.

What About Features and Battery Life?

Despite its slim profile, the Galaxy S25 Edge isn’t compromising on performance. According to leaks from SmartPrix and OnLeaks, the device will feature the same Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a metal frame, and a glass back as the standard S25 models.

However, one lingering concern is battery life. A thinner design usually means a smaller battery. Samsung may tackle this challenge by optimizing power efficiency through processor-level improvements or adopting advanced silicon-based batteries with higher energy densities. Competitors like the OnePlus 13 have successfully integrated 6,000mAh silicon batteries into slim designs, proving it’s possible.

Is the Galaxy S25 Edge a Step Ahead of Apple’s iPhone SE 4?

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge could also overshadow Apple’s upcoming iPhone SE 4. While Apple’s budget-friendly SE line is known for its performance and simplicity, it often lacks the innovative edge Samsung brings to its flagship lineup. The S25 Edge’s cutting-edge design, premium build, and advanced features may appeal to users seeking both style and substance. With its superior hardware and likely comparable price point, the Galaxy S25 Edge has the potential to outshine the iPhone SE 4 in the eyes of discerning consumers.
