Two blue Samsung Galaxy Flip8 foldable smartphones are dynamically displayed against a dark background with subtle blue lighting. One phone is partially folded, showing its screen and part of its back with cameras. The other is more open, revealing its full screen and the "SAMSUNG" branding on its hinge. Large text at the top reads "SAMSUNG Galaxy Flip8". The "UNBOX DIARIES" logo is at the top right. A yellow banner at the bottom announces "Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 to be thinner and lighter as foldables evolve". Social media icons and text are present at the very bottom.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 to be thinner and lighter as foldables evolve

Samsung is preparing to make its next clamshell foldable, the Galaxy Z Flip8, slimmer and lighter than ever. According to recent reports, the company is aiming for a major design improvement that will make the Flip8 easier to carry, use, and pocket compared to its predecessor.

A major trim in size and weight

Korean outlet The Bell claims that the Galaxy Z Flip8 will be more than ten percent thinner and lighter than the Galaxy Z Flip7. For context, the Flip7 weighed around 188 grams and measured about 13.7 millimeters when folded. If these reports hold true, the Flip8 could weigh around 169 grams and fold down to roughly 12 millimeters thick. That would make it one of the most compact foldables ever released.

Why this matters

A thinner and lighter Flip means more comfort and convenience in everyday use. Foldable phones are known for being bulky, and Samsung seems to be tackling that issue head-on. A sleeker hinge design, reduced thickness, and lighter materials could make the Flip 8 feel closer to a regular smartphone in the hand while keeping the fun of its folding design.

While a slimmer design sounds great, it raises a few important questions. Will the battery capacity take a hit because of the reduced size? Can Samsung keep the hinge durable and smooth despite the lighter frame? And will this redesign affect the outer display or pricing? These are key points that buyers will be watching closely once the device is officially revealed.

If Samsung successfully delivers a foldable that feels truly light and pocket-friendly without sacrificing performance or battery life, the Galaxy Z Flip8 could redefine what a compact foldable can be. It might finally bridge the gap between innovation and practicality, giving users a foldable phone that feels natural to use every day.

Sometimes, a simple trim in weight and size can make the biggest impact.

Would you trade a bit of battery life for a thinner foldable design?
