Samsung is the world’s no.1 smartphone brand for the month of August, Xiaomi and Apple follows

While Samsung took the top spot, Xiaomi grabbed the second spot as Apple experienced its usual seasonal drop.

The three giant brands in the smartphone market for August 2024 are quite obvious. They are Samsung, Xiaomi, and Apple, and yes, in that order.

Samsung’s solid hold on many regions, empowered by the new Galaxy AI and fresh offerings for the budget and mid-range segment, further increased its sales and expanded the brand to new audiences. So, it shouldn’t be a shock why the brand is at the top spot.

Yet the most curious is Xiaomi landing in second place, grabbing it away from Apple. How did it happen? According to Counterpoint Research’s Smartphone 360 Monthly Tracker, the Chinese brand has been one of the fastest-growing smartphone brands this year.

The brand outperformed the market this time after facing numerous challenges in recent years. Economic recovery in many of its markets has been the bolstering force behind Xiaomi’s success.

With more affordable offerings, buyers who regained economic recovery opted for Xiaomi devices, such as Redmi 13 and Note 13 series. Redmi has been popular in several territories, including India, Latin America, Southeast Asia and Middle East and Africa.

Apple’s relegation to third spot isn’t just about Xiaomi’s aggressive pricing. It’s linked to the expected seasonal drop since the next-generation iPhone is launched in September. So, we may see the rise of Apple in the charts very soon.

This is the first time in three years that Xiaomi has been able to take the second spot based on monthly sell-through volumes.
