Samsung might ditch the base Galaxy S models after S25

While the upcoming Galaxy S25 series is set to launch in January 2025 as usual, a significant change may be in store for the line in 2026. According to a new rumor, Samsung could discontinue the base model Galaxy S26, leaving only the S26+ and S26 Ultra.

This would follow a similar pattern to the recent Galaxy Tab S series, where the base model was dropped in favor of higher-end variants. The rumored decision to discontinue the Galaxy S26 is reportedly motivated by concerns about its competitiveness in the market, especially in light of the increasing number of high-spec, smaller-sized devices from Chinese brands.

While the Galaxy S25 may face challenges from Chinese competition, the potential discontinuation of the S26 remains uncertain. The source of the rumor, Ice Universe, has a mixed track record and may be exaggerating. It’s essential to approach this information with caution and wait for further confirmation.

If the rumor proves true, it would mark a significant departure from Samsung’s traditional flagship strategy. The move could be seen as a response to changing market dynamics and an effort to focus resources on more premium models.
