Samsung S24 Ultra will use EV battery technology to upgrade the battery.

The highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is just ten months away and rumors suggest that it might feature a groundbreaking new battery technology, borrowed from the electric vehicle industry.

According to a report from South Korea’s The Elec, Samsung’s battery research and development division (SDI) is looking to introduce stacked batteries to the smartphone market. Unlike traditional batteries, stacked batteries refer the arrangement instead of their chemistry. This results in a higher energy density, meaning that a greater capacity can fit within the same volume.

Is this really groundbreaking or it is just old news?

This has been used by Audi and Chinese battery maker CATL to fit large batteries inside EVs. Just like the Honor Magic 5 Pro, the silicon-carbon battery offers better overall density and higher low-voltage capacity than graphite batteries. Its prototype Magic5 Pro can pack 5450mAh, 350mAh more than its official 5100mAh battery. Both technologies offer higher battery capacity for longer use.

Although phones and electric vehicles operate under different conditions, the report claims that we can expect a 10% increase in battery density with this technology. This could allow Samsung to maintain the same battery capacity in a smaller cell, freeing up space for other components or enabling a more compact phone.

This is exciting news as the battery is usually one of the most critical components in a smartphone, impacting its performance, lifespan, and overall user experience. The use of stacked battery technology could significantly enhance the battery life and performance of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Aside from this exciting new battery tech, we’ve also heard that the Galaxy S24 may feature an improved camera setup and a massive GPU boost. With all of these rumored improvements, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is shaping up to be an impressive flagship device.
