Samsung Unpacked: Samsung Z Fold7, Flip7, & New FE are now available for pre-order

Today, July 10, 2025, is one of those days we circle on our calendars with a big, enthusiastic pen. Samsung just pulled back the curtain on its latest foldable masterpieces: the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Galaxy Z Flip7, alongside a surprising new entrant, the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE. And let me tell you, as someone who spends way too much time poring over spec sheets and digging into market trends, what they’ve unveiled is genuinely exciting.

For years, foldables felt like this cool, futuristic concept that hadn’t quite hit its stride. But with these new iterations, Samsung is clearly saying, “The future is now, and it’s getting sleek, smart, and a whole lot more appealing.”

The Galaxy Z Fold7: A Slimmer, Smarter Powerhouse

First up, the big kahuna: the Galaxy Z Fold7. My initial reaction? Wow. Samsung has made this thing astonishingly thin and light. At just 4.2mm unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, and weighing a mere 215 grams, it’s lighter than even some traditional slab flagships. This isn’t just a design tweak; it’s a fundamental shift, making the Fold7 genuinely pocketable and comfortable to hold. As a researcher, I’ve always noted the “bulk factor” as a barrier for many, and this addresses it head-on.

Underneath that svelte new Armor FlexHinge (which, by the way, promises an even less visible crease – thank goodness!), we’re looking at the new Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor. This custom silicon is designed to chew through anything, from graphic-intensive games to the device’s enhanced on-device AI capabilities.

Speaking of AI, this is where the Fold7 truly flexes its muscles. Running on Android 16 with One UI 8, it’s deeply integrated with Google’s Gemini AI. Imagine using “Photo Assist” to manipulate objects in your photos with precision, or having “Suggested Erases” intelligently remove photobombers with a tap. Plus, “Gemini Live” is there for real-time visual assistance and hands-free voice commands, making the large display even more functional.

The displays themselves are gorgeous: an 8.0-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner screen and a 6.5-inch FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X cover screen, both boasting a silky-smooth 120Hz refresh rate and a blinding 2600 nits peak brightness. The cover screen has also been widened to a more natural 21:9 aspect ratio, which is a fantastic ergonomic improvement for everyday use.

Now, for the big camera upgrade: a 200MP main sensor on the rear! This is a massive leap from previous generations, promising incredible detail, complemented by a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP 3x optical telephoto lens. Oh, and good news: the inner under-display camera has been replaced with a more traditional (and likely higher quality) 10MP punch-hole selfie camera.

One notable point for my fellow S-Pen aficionados: the Z Fold7 does not support the S-Pen. Samsung sacrificed the digitizer layer for that incredibly thin profile. It’s a trade-off, and one that loyalists will debate, but it highlights Samsung’s aggressive push for form factor refinement.

Starting at $1,999.99, the Fold7 isn’t cheap, but it’s pushing the boundaries of what a foldable can be.

The Galaxy Z Flip7: Pocketable Perfection Gets a Major Cover Screen Upgrade

For those who prefer their tech to fit neatly in a pocket (or a mini-bag!), the Galaxy Z Flip7 is here to dazzle. It’s also remarkably slimmer and lighter, clocking in at 13.7mm folded and just 188 grams.

The biggest story here, in my humble opinion, is the FlexWindow – that outer cover display. It’s grown significantly to a 4.1-inch Super AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and the same 2600 nits peak brightness as the Fold. This isn’t just for notifications anymore; it’s a highly interactive mini-dashboard. Imagine typing quick replies, controlling music, or even getting AI assistance via Gemini Live, all without ever opening your phone. This expanded functionality is precisely what the Flip series needed to feel truly integrated.

The main internal display is now a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X with a 120Hz refresh rate, and importantly, it’s also been widened for a much-improved typing experience – a small but significant win for daily usability. Powering the Flip7 is the Exynos 2500 SoC, paired with 12GB of RAM.

Photography on the Flip7 also gets a boost, with a 50MP main wide lens and a 12MP ultrawide. The improved FlexCam features mean more versatile hands-free shooting modes, perfect for vlogging or unique angles. And with a larger 4,300mAh battery, the Flip7 aims to keep you powered through your stylish day.

Impressively, the Galaxy Z Flip7 holds its starting price at $1,099.99, making it a highly competitive offering in the flip phone segment, especially against new rivals.

The Wildcard: Galaxy Z Flip7 FE – Foldables for (Almost) Everyone?

This is where Samsung gets really interesting. The introduction of the Galaxy Z Flip7 FE (Fan Edition) signals a clear strategy: make foldables more accessible. Starting at just $899, the Flip7 FE brings the core clamshell experience to a wider audience.

It sports a 6.7-inch main display and a slightly smaller, albeit still functional, 3.4-inch cover screen (similar to the Flip6). Under the hood, it’s powered by the Exynos 2400, with 8GB RAM and up to 256GB storage, and features a 50MP main FlexCam. It’s a smart move to capture a segment of the market eager to jump into foldables without the flagship price tag.

The Takeaway: A Maturing Foldable Ecosystem

Today’s Unpacked event isn’t just about new phones; it’s about the continued maturation of the foldable form factor. Samsung is refining the design, pushing the boundaries of AI integration, and critically, expanding the accessibility of these once-niche devices. The focus on thinner builds, larger and more interactive cover screens, and smarter on-device AI points to a future where foldables aren’t just cool party tricks, but genuinely practical, intelligent daily drivers.

Pre-orders begin today, with general availability hitting shelves on July 25th. If you’ve been on the fence about diving into the foldable world, this might just be the generation that convinces you to make the fold!
