Samsung has officially introduced its latest foldable smartphones during Galaxy Unpacked 2026, unveiling the Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8. The new lineup brings several notable upgrades, including Samsung’s first-ever silicon-carbon (Si-C) batteries, slimmer designs, improved displays, more powerful hardware, and enhanced Galaxy AI features.
.The three devices are now available for pre-order in select markets following the July 22 announcement. Samsung says the foldables will officially go on sale starting August 7, with availability varying by region.
Samsung adopts silicon-carbon batteries for the first time
Perhaps the biggest hardware change this year is Samsung’s switch to silicon-carbon battery technology. While several Chinese smartphone brands have already adopted the newer battery chemistry, this marks the first time Samsung has used it in a Galaxy smartphone.
Silicon-carbon batteries can store more energy than traditional graphite batteries without taking up additional space. This allows Samsung to increase battery capacity while keeping its foldables thin and lightweight.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 packs a 4,800mAh battery, while the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra gets a larger 5,000mAh battery. The Galaxy Z Flip8, meanwhile, features a 4,300mAh battery, offering improved endurance in Samsung’s compact foldable.
Galaxy Z Fold8
The Galaxy Z Fold8 builds on Samsung’s familiar book-style foldable design with several refinements instead of a complete redesign.
It features a 7.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display and a 6.5-inch cover screen, both supporting a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate. Samsung has also reduced the visibility of the crease while making the display more durable through improvements to its hinge and flexible display structure.
Powering the Fold8 is the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, paired with 12GB of RAM and storage options of 256GB or 512GB.
For photography, the Fold8 includes a 50MP main camera, 12MP ultrawide, 10MP telephoto, a 10MP cover camera, and a 4MP under-display selfie camera on the inner display.
The phone also ships with Android 17 layered with One UI 9, bringing Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI features optimized for multitasking, productivity, and large-screen experiences.
Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra
Leading the lineup is the new Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, which replaces the traditional Ultra flagship experience in Samsung’s foldable family.
The device comes with a larger 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable display featuring a 2K resolution, anti-reflective coating, and an even less noticeable crease. Samsung says these upgrades improve outdoor visibility while making the display feel closer to a conventional smartphone screen.
Like the standard Fold8, the Ultra is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, but it offers 16GB of RAM with 512GB or 1TB of storage.
Camera upgrades are another major highlight. The Fold8 Ultra features a 200MP main camera, joined by a 50MP ultrawide and 50MP periscope telephoto camera, making it Samsung’s most capable foldable for photography so far.
Keeping everything running is the new 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, giving the Ultra both more capacity and a slimmer design than previous generations.
Galaxy Z Flip8
Samsung also refreshed its flip-style foldable with the Galaxy Z Flip8.
Rather than introducing a dramatic redesign, Samsung focused on improving the overall user experience. The Flip8 features a larger and more useful cover display, upgraded Galaxy AI tools, and the same Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor found in the Fold series.
It sports a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a 120Hz refresh rate, along with a 4.3-inch FlexWindow cover display.
The camera system includes a 50MP main sensor and a 12MP ultrawide camera, while the 4,300mAh silicon-carbon battery promises better battery life despite the phone’s compact size.
Galaxy AI takes center stage
As expected, Samsung continues to push Galaxy AI across its latest premium devices.
The new foldables come with AI-powered tools for writing, translation, image editing, productivity, and multitasking. Samsung has also optimized many of these features for foldable displays, allowing users to run multiple apps more efficiently while taking advantage of the larger screens.

Availability
Pre-orders in the Philippines opened on July 22, immediately after Galaxy Unpacked. The Galaxy Z Fold8, Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, and Galaxy Z Flip8 will officially go on sale beginning August 7 through Samsung Philippines and its authorized retailers.
