Qualcomm is set to announce its next flagship mobile processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, at the upcoming Snapdragon Summit. Leaks and early benchmarks have provided a clear picture of a chip designed for top-tier performance, with a record-breaking AnTuTu score and significant architectural changes.
Performance and Architecture
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is tipped to achieve a record-breaking 4.2 million to 4.4 million points on the AnTuTu v11 benchmark. This represents a huge leap over the previous generation. This puts it in a head-to-head battle with the MediaTek Dimensity 9500, which is also rumored to be hitting the 4 million point mark. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 features a “2+6” core configuration, with two high-performance Oryon prime cores clocked at up to 4.61 GHz and six other high-performance cores. A special overclocked version for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series is expected to reach up to 4.74 GHz.
GPU and AI
The new Adreno 840 GPU is rumored to be clocked at 1.2 GHz, promising major improvements for mobile gaming. The most significant upgrade may be the new Hexagon NPU, which is expected to deliver up to 100 TOPS (tera-operations per second) of AI performance. This would be a massive leap forward for on-device AI tasks, from image processing to real-time language models.
Manufacturing and Release
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is built on TSMC’s 3nm N3P process, which offers better performance and efficiency than the previous node. The official announcement is scheduled for September 23, 2025. Early reports suggest that the first devices to feature this chip will be the Xiaomi 16, OnePlus 15, and other flagship phones from brands like HONOR and iQOO, with a special version of the chip reserved for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series.
