As Qualcomm prepares to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, details about its successor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, are already emerging. According to a recent leak, the 8 Gen 5 will maintain the same core configuration as its predecessor but offer a substantial boost in clock speeds.
The performance cores, rumored to be codenamed Pegasus, are expected to reach an impressive 5.0 GHz. Even the efficiency cores are said to clock in at 4.0 GHz, significantly higher than the 8 Gen 4’s projected 4.32 GHz and 3.53 GHz,respectively.
However, there may be a caveat. The leak suggests that these impressive speeds could be exclusive to the TSMC-manufactured version of the 8 Gen 5. Qualcomm has indicated plans to dual-source the chip, using both TSMC and Samsung Foundry. While the clock speeds for the Samsung-made version remain uncertain, it’s possible that Samsung’s manufacturing process could deliver comparable or even superior performance.
As the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is still in development, the details of the 8 Gen 5 are subject to change. Nevertheless, if the leak proves accurate, the 8 Gen 5 could offer a significant performance upgrade over its predecessor.”
