An on-the-go PS5 console is currently in early stages of development.
It’s either Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck – the two most popular portable gaming consoles today. So, it’s no surprise that Sony wants a piece of the market.
According to Bloomberg, a full-fledged portable PS5 is being considered to play PS5 titles natively. This may just be the grand successor of the legacy household icon, the PlayStation Portable (PSP).
So, what’s the status? While in the works, the alleged handheld PS5 is still in early stages and the company may pull the plug anytime. It’s still years away from being released and that’s why no hardware details are known.
The closest thing we have right now is the PlayStation Portal, a remote gaming device for the PS5. You can play PS5 games using Wi-Fi without using a TV, but it needs to connect to the PS5 itself.
Handheld gaming consoles trended in recent years, thanks to hardware innovation that allowed brands to port or directly install PC games on portable devices. These gadgets have powerful chipsets and come with exquisite controllers.
Besides Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck, you can also find the ASUS ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go, both running Windows OS. However, Switch gets you access to exclusive Nintendo games while Steam Deck is recommended for Steam games.
