The next flagship, Sony Xperia 1 VI, is likely moving away from the 20:9 aspect ratio with a wider form factor.
Sony has scheduled a special event next month and it’s something that Xperia fans should look forward to. That’s because the said event could be the official unveiling of the Sony Xperia 1 VI flagship smartphone.
According to the post from Sony Japan, the event is scheduled for May 17, 2024, which is Friday, to be held at the Terrada B&C Hall in Tokyo, Japan. However, only 100 people are invited.
So, what’s the topic during the event? The description (machine-translated) reads “Xperia developers introduce the latest features in real life.” No direct mention of the 2024 Xperia lineup.
Speaking of that lineup, everyone is expecting Sony to launch Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 5 VI, and Xperia 10 VI. The flagship Xperia 1 VI has been recently reported ditching the tall 4K form factor in favor of the standard and wider form.
But since this is a Sony Xperia phone, don’t expect a notch or punch hole. The classic black top and bottom parts of the screen are there.
The tradeoff is the inclusion of the much-loved 3.5mm headphone jack and a dedicated camera shutter key. Not many flagships feature one or both today.
Back to the form factor, the Sony Xperia 1 VI is rumored to have a 6.5-inch screen and it measures 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4 millimeters, with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. This is a departure to the predecessor’s 21:9 aspect ratio.
The Sony Xperia Special Event 2024 will be livestreamed as well.
