As Oprah shouts “YOU GET AI!, YOU GET AI! YOU GET AI! EVERYBODY GETS AI!”. Spotify is giving its app a major AI upgrade.
The music streaming platform has started rolling out a new feature called “Talk to Spotify,” allowing users to chat with the app using their voice or by typing, much like talking to ChatGPT. While it won’t replace AI chatbots, it can help users discover music, learn more about songs, and even control playback through natural conversations.
The feature is currently available only on Spotify’s mobile app and can be accessed from both the Home screen and the Now Playing page.
Chat with Spotify instead of searching
Instead of manually searching for songs or playlists, users can simply ask Spotify what they want.
Whether you’re looking for a specific artist, a workout playlist, relaxing music, or something completely new, Spotify’s AI can understand natural language and respond like a chatbot. Users can also ask follow-up questions or refine their requests without starting over.
Spotify says the experience is designed to feel like having a conversation rather than using a traditional search bar.
It does more than recommend songs
Spotify says users can also:
- Discover new artists based on their listening habits
- Fine-tune playlists while music is already playing
- Save songs to their library
- Add songs to the queue
- Follow artists
- Learn more about the song currently playing, including its inspiration, genre, and album release date
- Revisit their listening history
- Ask questions about podcasts and audiobooks, including the people, stories, and ideas behind them
- Get insights into their own listening habits and favorite genres
According to Spotify, the assistant also understands users’ playlists, favorite artists, repeat listens, and listening history to deliver more personalized recommendations.
Rolling out first to select users
For now, Talk to Spotify is launching as a beta feature.
It is currently available only to:
- Spotify Premium subscribers
- Users aged 18 and above
- English-language users
- Android and iOS devices
- Users in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden
Spotify has not announced when the feature will expand to more countries, languages, or free users.

AI is quickly becoming part of everyday apps, and Spotify is the latest company to embrace the trend. Instead of simply searching for music, users can now have a conversation with the app to discover new songs, learn more about their favorite artists, explore podcasts, or manage their listening experience.
