Spotify tests two-factor authentication for some users

Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring a one-time code alongside your password. While many services offer this, Spotify appears to be testing a limited version for a select group of users.

This early iteration reportedly delivers the code only via email, lacking options for SMS or authenticator apps. While not ideal, it’s a positive step towards increased account security.

Currently, you can’t opt-in or choose the method. Spotify, likely testing the waters, hasn’t officially announced the feature yet.

Why This Matters

Leaked passwords are a common threat. 2FA makes unauthorized access much harder, especially crucial for protecting Spotify Premium accounts.

Looking Ahead

Artist accounts already benefit from full-fledged 2FA, suggesting a wider rollout could be forthcoming. Hopefully, Spotify will refine the system to include preferred delivery methods like authenticator apps for all users.
