A new concept device, TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate 2, can fold into three screens, suggesting the future of foldable smartphones.
No stranger in foldable smartphone tech, TECNO is back with a new PHANTOM concept that folds three-ways.
The TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate 2 definitely looks like a typical high–end foldable smartphone. While its standard screen size is only 6.48 inches, the user can expand it to 10 inches. The screen boasts LTPO tech, enabling a refresh rate of as low as one.
Aside from that, the TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate 2 also features a display resolution of 1,620 x 2,880 pixels and aspect ratio of 4:3. The brand claims that this is the first foldable device with touch and display driver integration or TDDI technology.
Basically, the touch sensor and display driver are on a single chip. This tech solves a number of issues in design, leading to a thinner device.
The TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate 2 only measures 11 millimeters when completely folded, thanks to its dual-hinge mechanism. This hinge design has been tested for 300,000 folds. The same design reduced crease visibility as well.
TDDI also helped the brand make an incredibly slim battery cover on any smartphone of just 0.25 mm.
So, what are the use cases of the TECNO PHANTOM Ultimate 2?
- Laptop Mode: Fold the device into two parts where the bottom half serves as the keyboard.
- Tent Mode: Fold the device into two parts to form an A for seamless face-to-face dual-screen conversations with live translation enabled.
- Multitasking Mode: Fold the device into three parts and spread three apps to each screen for a less cramped multitasking experience.
Unfortunately, TECNO didn’t reveal any release plans for the PHANTOM Ultimate 2. But getting your hands on a trifold device is certainly exciting!
